Wine Tasting

Chateau La Rose Sarron

The Chateau La Rose Sarron is situated in the Graves region close to us; it was purchased in 1985 by Vignobles Roland Belloc and completely replanted.

The property is owned and worked by Philippe Rochet with the help of his two children Damien and Anais; they produce red wine aged in oak barrels, dry and sweet whites.

The domaine is on 35 ha and is made up of 25 ha of Graves red, 5 ha of the production “Cuvee Damien” are aged in oak barrels for 12 months. 10 ha of white graves, 2 hectares of which are “Cuvee Anais aged in oak barrels for 9 months.

This Chateau has been highly recommended in several of the leading wine guides in France.

For more information visit their web site www.la-rose-sarron.com

Chateau Guillemins                     www.chateau-guillemins.com

This chateau is situated near Langon and produce’s Grave wines; the Grave region stretches along the left bank of the Garonne from Bordeaux to Langon. Jean-Francois and his sister Isabelle are the fifth generation of the Villemeur family to make wine in their vineyard. Chateau Guillemins has been entitled to the Graves Appellation since 1893, the Graves wine takes its name from the gravel nature of the soil and the geographical location.

Jean-Francois and Isabelle both speak English and can take you on a very interesting and informative tour explaining the art of wine making, which culminates in a very generous tasting.

They produce red wine aged in oak and in inox vats, dry white and sweet white wines.

Wine tasting and tour of the chai’s for both these chateaux is by appointment only and can be arranged by us.

Local Golf

Local Golf Courses
Both of these local courses have English-speaking staff.

Graves et du Sauternais

                  www.golf-des-graves.com

This course is the closest to us, only five minutes drive by car.

The course is particularly interesting for its wide variety of holes, which run through the forest and around many water features. It alternates between long testing holes and more technically challenging shorter ones. This is a shady tree lined parkland course which makes it suitable for all year round play, a real treat for all standards of golfers.

  Casteljaloux golf club

The course is about 40 minutes from us by car, and is situated on the outskirts of the town.

This course is well laid out and blends perfectly into its natural surroundings for the pleasure of both novice and experienced golfers. It is situated opposite the Lac De Clarens, a large tourist lake with a sandy beach and a restaurant.

These are the two courses nearest to us but there are many other quality 18-hole courses in and around Bordeaux.

Fishing and Canoeing

Aquitaine takes its name from the Latin for water, so its not surprising that close to us are many rivers, lakes and a canal all of which provide first class fishing. There are several fishing tackle shops that also hire out fishing rods and sell bait and can assist you in obtaining a fishing licence for holiday periods.

For the growing number of people who now prefer to take their holidays at a leisurely pace by walking between places of interest there are well over 1000 km of “ secret de Randonnee” paths for walkers in the Gironde. Over 600 km of which have been specially built and are reserved exclusively for walkers and cyclists.

The closest Canoe-Kayak school to us is about 10 km away in the village of Bommes on the banks of the river Ciron. They organise three different trips in the canoes along the river, two of which are full days and one half day, this entails travelling by mini bus to the starting point and then travelling back along the river by canoe passing water mills and chateaux on the way back to Bommes.

Horse Riding, Tennis and Cycling

The French are as passionate as the English when it comes to horse riding, and most small to medium size towns have at least one or more Pony clubs. The closest to us is Les Ecuries de Labarthe Vieille at 3 km they are a member of the Equitation-Poney club de France and cater from the age of 5 years up to adults, by appointment only.

                Tennis

There are two tennis courts in the village of Auros just a 500m walk from our property; one of the courts is floodlit for play on cool summer evenings. They can be hired by the hour.

Cycling

A 1000 km of cycle tracks have been created in the Gironde to explore at your own pace in perfect security. One of the tracks is only 5 km from us and follows along the banks of the Lateral Canal another takes you through the forest, and if you have the energy it will take you all the way to the coast.  There are several place
s along the route where you can hire cycles and equipment.
