Local interest
This chateau is situated near Langon and produce’s Grave wines; the Grave region stretches along the left bank of the Garonne from Bordeaux to Langon. Jean-Francois and his sister Isabelle are the fifth generation of the Villemeur family to make wine in their vineyard. Chateau Guillemins has been entitled to the Graves Appellation since 1893, the Graves wine takes its name from the gravel nature of the soil and the geographical location.
Jean-Francois and Isabelle both speak English and can take you on a very interesting and informative tour explaining the art of wine making, which culminates in a very generous tasting. They produce red wine aged in oak and in inox vats, dry white and sweet white wines.
This Chateau is within walking distance from us and is virtually at the end of the road, which passes our property. The Chateau La Peyrere was built in 1752 and wine has been produced on the property since the 16th century. They produce red Bordeaux Superieur and Bordeaux aged in oak, dry white and sweet white all Appellations d`Origine control.
Wine tasting and tour of the chai’s for both these
chateaux is by appointment only and can be arranged by us. Local Golf Courses
This course is the closest to us, only five minutes drive by car.
The course is about 40 minutes from us by car, and is situated on the outskirts of the town.
These are the two courses nearest to us but there are many other quality 18-hole courses in and around Bordeaux.
For the growing number of people who now prefer to take their holidays at a leisurely pace by walking between places of interest there are well over 1000 km of “ secret de Randonnee” paths for walkers in the Gironde. Over 600 km of which have been specially built and are reserved exclusively for walkers and cyclists.
The closest Canoe-Kayak school to us is about 10 km away in the village of Villandraut on the banks of the river Ciron. They organise three different trips in the canoes along the river, two of which are full days and one half day, they entail travelling by mini bus to the starting point and then travelling back along the river by canoe passing water mills and chateaux along the way to Villandraut.
The French are as passionate as the English when it comes
to horse riding, and most small to medium size towns have at least one or more
Pony clubs. The closest to us is Les Ecuries de Labarthe Vieille at 3 km they
are a member of the Equitation-Poney club de France and cater from the age of
5 years up to adults, by appointment only.
